Selecting a Alcohol Rehab

Once a person recognizes that they need help with alcohol addiction, the next step is to enter rehab.  Actually, the correct next step would be to research possible alcohol rehab facilities. This step is so important because the quality of care that one receives will determine whether or not they will be able to get quality treatment and become sober.  The sooner that they can find a well reputed alcohol rehab center, the faster they can get on the road to recovery. A bad rehab center or program at best, may slow down a person’s recovery and at worse, can make their addiction more severe.  When looking to choose a facility or program, there are a few things to take into consideration.  We will discuss those below.

You should look at whether or not the staff is properly educated and trained, whether the alcohol rehab center has a sound reputation for treatment, their reputation and of course, cost.  It is imperative that the rehab facility you choose has educated and well-trained staff. These are the individuals that will be working with you or your loved one and you want to make sure that they know what they are doing.  A well trained and properly equipped alcohol addiction counselor can be invaluable.  On the other hand, one that is not so good, not experienced or trained can do more damage then good and likely won’t be of much help.

A sound treatment philosophy is also very important. Make sure that you understand the type of treatment that you will be receiving.  Ensure that it makes sense to you.  For example, if a center plans to make you go hiking 50 miles every day but plans to provide no counseling or classes to teach you about addiction and how to prevent relapsing, this should cause you to pause. Their philosophy and treatment plan obviously sounds a little whacked.

You will only want to enroll in a program that is well reputed. If a particular center has a reputation for not being effective, taking shortcuts and for not helping people become sober, this will obviously be one that you want to stay away from.  On the other, if you hear raving reviews about a particular rehab facility, particularly that they are able to consistently help people get clean and stay clean, this will be one that you will at least want to consider and perhaps even join.

The last consideration you will need to make is cost. Although it would be great if cost wasn’t an issue, it likely will be for most people. Therefore, while you may not be able to get everything you want from a particular rehabilitation center, look to find one that provides excellent care but is also affordable.
