How to Pick A California Alcohol Rehab

Your choice of an alcohol rehab program will mean a great deal to your success. If you choose the wrong alcohol rehab center, your progress will likely be stymied. You may even relapse. For these reasons, it is very important to do your very best to choose a good rehab facility the first time around. If you have no idea how to go about doing that, don’t worry. We will cover how to in this article, specifically how to find one located in California. It is important to note that while it is ideal to pick the “perfect” (there really is no perfect place), it won’t always happen the first time around. You may need to try out a few before you find one that fits.

a. Check the Yellow Pages: The Yellow Pages is a good place to begin. The rehab facilities listed here will be those who have paid for their name or advertisement to be listed. This does not necessarily mean that they are better then a company that is not included. However, it may mean that they at least have the money to place an ad, which may mean that they actually have patients.  This is generally a pretty good sign. Typically, the bigger the ad, the more money it costs. The facilities that can afford the biggest ads often are pretty successful. Of course this is not always the case, just about everyone has a credit card which they can use to purchase a decent sized advertisement.

As stated above, the Yellow Pages are just a good place to start. Your search won’t end there. It will be necessary to interview the rehab manager, get some referrals and actually visit the facility. Always ask about the training and education of the staff and counselors and what you can expect as far as treatment is concerned, i.e., detox, counseling, classes, workshops, etc.

b. Spend some time online: The internet can be invaluable to your search. You can find all types of information on California alcohol rehab facilities online. Not only will you be able to visit their websites, if they have one, but you may also be able to find out what other people, specifically past patients think about them. The internet is a great place to get background information on rehab centers because people love to discuss their experiences.

c. Get a referral: If at all possible, try to get a referral. Mouth-to-mouth advertising is often considered better then any other because people generally give their family and/or friends their real opinion. If you want to get the real deal about a facility, do what you can to speak with other people who have already spent time there and actually experienced it. A good referral can enable you to save both precious time and money. If you consistently hear that a rehab center is bad, don’t ignore this information. It would not be wise. Don’t enroll there. On the other hand, if you keep hearing that a particular rehab facility is really good, look into it.
